*NEW* Open Life Drawing Workshop

Monday 6:30pm - 9:30pm | $15 per session, per person

This is an open non-instructional drawing session for all those interested in working from the live model. Students pay on a "per-session basis and must rsvp at least 7 days in advance prior to coming.

Figure Sculpture Workshop

Instructor: Vincent Hawkins
Monday 6:30pm-9:30pm | $150 for 6 weeks

In this class students will learn the basics of working in clay from a live model. We will cover the use of clay tools and the importance of clay body chemistry, basic armature construction, facial anatomy, and clay hollowing and firing technique.

Knife and Sword Making

Beginning Jewelry and Metalsmithing

Students will complete several jewelry projects and learn basic fabrication techniques. The class will cover soldering, stone setting, and patinas. Contact Kristian with any questions about these classes. Or sign up and learn how to create your own jewelry or metalsmithing project!

Metal Sculpture/Fabrication at the Fire Arts CenterBeginning Metal Sculpture

Instructor: Vincent Hawkins
Thursday 7-10pm
$285 for 10 weeks or $400 for 16 weeks

This class focuses on how to work sculptural concepts from the drawing board to the scale model stage of construction. Students will be expected to keep a sketchbook of ideas which will be critiqued and refined at each class session. Students will learn basic metal fabrication technique.

Advanced Metal Sculpture

Thursday 7-10pm
$285 for 10 weeks or $400 for 16 weeks

This class deals with fabrication of large scale metal sculpture from models or free-form. As with Beginning Metal Sculpture, students will be expected to keep a sketchbook of ideas which will be critiqued and refined at each class session. Students will learn advanced metal fabrication technique, gas forging, Acetylene welding, and gas and arc welding techniques as well as brazing and chasing techniques.

Beginning/Intermediate Metal Furniture Studio

Students will learn how to design and create basic table top furnishings in metal using basic techniques of metal fabrication and brazing.

Repetition of this class will provide more advanced metal-working lessons.

Advanced Metal Furniture Studio

Bronze Sculpture Casting at the Fire Arts CenterBeginning Foundry | Metal (Bronze) Casting

Instructors: Vincent Hawkins & Michael Bennett
Wednesday 7-10pm and Saturday 3-6pm
$285 for 10 weeks or $400 for 16 weeks

The metal foundry class is designed to familiarize students with the basics of lost wax casting process. Students will learn basic wax casting and working technique, gating and venting, ceramic shell and investment molding techniques. Students will be required to complete at least 3 finished projects to be cast in bronze, iron, aluminum, or copper.

Repetition of this class will provide more advanced foundry education.

Intermediate Foundry | Metal (Bronze) Casting

Wednesday 7-10pm and Saturday 3-6pm
$285 for 10 weeks or $400 for 16 weeks

The intermediate metal foundry class is designed to give a basic understanding of foundry procedure and the techniques for doing large scale casting in iron, bronze, aluminum, and copper. The burnout kiln, wax recycling operations, and patination techniques will be covered. Students will participate in iron, bronze, aluminum and copper pours. As before, students will be required to complete at least 3 finished projects cast in bronze.

Advanced Foundry | Metal (Bronze) Casting

Wednesday 7-10pm and Saturday 3-6pm
$285 for 10 weeks or $400 for 16 weeks

The advanced metal foundry class will give students a level of mastery over the process of casting art works in bronze, iron, aluminum, and copper. We will cover kiln design and construction, ferrous and non-ferrous metallurgy and alloying. Students are required to take at least 2 intermediate metal foundry classes before being accepted for enrollment in the advance foundry class.

In beginning stone carving students will learn the basic techniques for composing and carving small sculpture out of alabaster and other soft stones. Students will need to purchase carving tools and materials. (This class is not for students with back problems or arthritis.)

Intermediate Stone Carving Workshop

Saturday 3-6pm
$285 for 10 weeks or $400 for 16 weeks

In intermediate stone carving students will learn how to work with medium hardness stones like sandstones and lime stones. Students can carve small sculpture projects in a stone of medium hardness or can learn to carve larger project in soft stones. (This class is not for students with back problems or arthritis.)
