Learn to Draw like Leonardo DaVinci in this 10-week figure drawing workshop. Students will explore classical drawing technique for rendering the human form in conte crayon, pencil, silver point and various other drawing mediums. In addition to drawing, the class offers a chance to sculpturally study the human form, as well. Either way you choose to work, you will receive a comprehensive education regarding human anatomy and figure study in your medium of choice.

Yes this is a class where you will learn the techniques used to make medieval "plate" armor like what you see in the Art Institute and the movie Lord of the Rings. Jon not only makes armor but he uses it when fighting in medieval martial re-enactments. (His class was too cool not to offer.) So sign up and learn how to forge armor today!

The beginning metal foundry class is designed to familiarize students with the basics of lost wax casting process. Students will learn basic wax casting and working technique, gating and venting, ceramic shell and investment molding techniques. Students will be required to complete at least 3 finished projects to be cast in bronze, iron, aluminum, or copper.

The intermediate metal foundry class is designed to give a basic understanding of foundry procedure and the techniques for doing large scale casting in iron, bronze, aluminum, and copper. The burnout kiln, wax recycling operations, and patination techniques will be covered. Students will participate in iron, bronze, aluminum and copper pours. As before, students will be required to complete at least 3 finished projects cast in bronze.

The advanced metal foundry class will give students a level of mastery over the process of casting art works in bronze, iron, aluminum, and copper. We will cover kiln design and construction, ferrous and non-ferrous metallurgy and alloying. Students are required to take at least 2 intermediate metal foundry classes before being accepted for enrollment in the advance foundry class.

In the beginning mold making class students will learn basic techniques of plaster molding. We will cover how to make one piece molds, two piece molds, waste molds in plaster, and latex rubber molds. These techniques would be beneficial for any student, but particularly helpful to anyone interested in foundry work or casting in a variety of materials.

Students in the intermediate mold making class will learn more advanced molding techniques. Making multiple piece plaster molds, urethane and silicones rubber molds, techniques for drawing out and gaging symmetrical forms in plaster using a template, as well as model building in plaster and styrofoam will be covered. These techniques will also be of help for those interested in the Fire Arts foundry classes.

Beginning Metal Sculpture

This class focuses on how to work sculptural concepts from the drawing board to the scale model stage of construction. Students will be expected to keep a sketchbook of ideas which will be critiqued and refined at each class session. Students will learn basic metal fabrication technique.

This class deals with fabrication of large scale metal sculpture from models or free-form. As with Beginning Metal Sculpture, students will be expected to keep a sketchbook of ideas which will be critiqued and refined at each class session. Students will learn advanced metal fabrication technique, gas forging, Acetylene welding, and gas and arc welding techniques as well as brazing and chasing techniques. |

This multimedia class is designed to be an introduction to sculpture. First kids will create and paint different kinds of kites. This basic class is designed to teach kids methods of composition and design as well as to offer students an opportunity to explore a variety of drawing media.
